Firstly, this is based on a vector by another artist located here: [link]
Astute viewers will note that I've changed the wording from "WE ARE" to Elwood's "WE'RE", because it's my embroidery machine and the Blues Brothers win out.
The following story is entirely true. I have a friend, person A. A has a friend, person B, whom I have never met but whom I think is a mooch. See A works two jobs and has very little money to show for it, while B has no job at all or so I'm told.
Anyway, A invited B to a convention and B asked A to pay for B's registration because B is poor. A is a kind person and is planning to do just that and then A tells B that I can make patches.
B immediately asks if I could embroider some Hellsing patches for B's Seras costume and offers to pay me.
.....
Now hold the *$@%ing bus.
So when A tells me about B's request I do the arithmetic in my head and decide that basically B is paying me with money A is spending out of pocket so B can come to the con in the first place.
I put two and two together and tell A "tell B she can pay for her own badge and I'll make her as many patches as she needs free, because I don't work for money and certainly your money she's spending on her."
So here's a Hellsing patch. I'll probably have to make several more.
My machine is really... really nice. Next year I plan to start selling steampunk themed embroidered stuff at conventions, but I want to hold off until 2013 so that I don't have to deal with sales taxes and sole proprietorship income taxes this year.
So basically everything I'm doing for people this year is either free or at-cost.
I've sent three of these to the artist who made the vector for his own costume as well. He really likes them too.
You're not a bad person...it's like when someone asks if they can borrow twenty bucks then they give someone else twenty bucks saying "Here's the twenty bucks I owe you" or they use is to pay the food bill at a restaurant after saying they would treat everyone. It's not an exact comparison I know but I'm just saying that you weren't wrong to say that to person A because person B is really a moocher
What are you interested in commissioning?
